Sunrise Hamilton is in NY-22, represented by Representative Anthony Brindisi (D). Brindisi has not backed any Green New Deal legislation, and our primary goal is to get him to do so. Our senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, are being asked to do the same by cosponsoring the Green New Deal for Public Housing Act. We are also working to get the City of Utica and Oneida County to create climate action plans which address the crisis with justice and equity, a Green New Deal for Central New York. We are also organizing for the State of New York to adequately follow through on the landmark Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act with at least $1 billion in the state budget.

In mid August 2020, hub members voted unanimously to endorse Sen. Rachel May for re-election to represent NY's 53rd Senate District, which encompasses Clinton, NY. Sen. May is one of the strongest leaders for climate justice in NY, starting her career by ousting a member of the Independent Democratic Caucus to replace them with a progressive, just vision for Central New York. Her work was essential in passing the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, and she will soon be pushing for green jobs across the state. We are proud to endorse her.

On January 9th, 2020, over 3,000 Sunrisers across the country overwhelmingly voted to endorse Bernie Sanders with over 75% of the vote. Bernie has a track record of standing up for the struggles of young people and fighting the climate crisis. He is building a multi-class, multi-racial movement that extends beyond him and will therefore last long after he is out of office. We are proud to endorse former Hamilton College professor, Bernie Sanders, for President of the United States.
